Communication... it's so imperative, yet can feel so complicated and challenging. We all have an innate desire to feel heard and understood, so what are we missing?
An important and underestimated part of communication is listening. When we feel blocked in our communication with our kids, we are looking for them to communicate with us the way we would communicate. Maybe we are expecting them to approach us to talk, to be forthcoming, or to be responsive when asked to open up.
So what can parents do when communication seems like a challenge?
Listen to what they ARE telling us. Tune in to their body language, actions, and behaviors. What is your child really trying to say? Listening and observing are powerful tools that can lead to important information. Through all of the mood swings, lashing out, and withdrawn behavior, you will find that kids really want love, approval, acceptance, and validation.
Intu It teaches parents how to listen to their kids AND how to respond. At Intu It, parents and kids learn appropriate and effective forms of communication and creative methods that work best for them. Kids also learn the importance of communication and how to become empowered to communicate. :)
