Changing a habit or behavior is a challenging and tremendous process. Change does not happen overnight because the behavior did not develop overnight.
Sometimes it is discouraging when we find ourselves right back where we started after countless attempts at improvement. But if you change the way you think about progress, you can change the way you feel about progress.
Progress is not linear. Progress is any energy we put toward improvement. For kids AND parents, every setback, mistake, and trying time serves a purpose and allows us to grow and learn. So, don't beat yourself up if you aren't where you want to be in your journey of growth. Enjoy and embrace the process of growing and learning, and forget what it looks like to others. That, truly, is progress.
